wxDevcon 2023 – May 4-5, 2023 – Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

Note: This post will be continually updated as we near the event dates.

Urgent Update! The final Registration Deadline is April 7, and we only have a couple of slots open, if you want to attend you need to register as soon as possible!

We will be holding a 2-day Developers Conference at Lake of the Ozarks, in Missouri on May 4th and 5th 2023.

Along with covering general and advanced techniques of WINDEV, WEBDEV, and WINDEV Mobile, this will be right around the time of the v28 release and we will have a couple of sessions reviewing some of the most exciting features in the new release. More details on the specific sessions will be announced as we get closer to the event. If you have an interest in being a presenter please contact Andy or myself.

Sessions will be Thursday and Friday from 9AM – 4PM, with a lunch break. We are trying to keep registration costs down for the event so we will be providing coffee, tea and water for morning and breaks, and letting you manage your own lunch arrangements with two eating options onsite.

Registration Information

Registration for the event will be $300, which covers the 2 days of sessions and morning/breaks, coffee/tea/water. For the first 20 people that register for the event, you will also receive a 5% discount on your v28 upgrades when you place those orders next year, so be sure to register early to grab one of those first 20 spots!

Registration is now open. You can use this direct link https://www.windev-us.com/US/PriceList.awp?ProductCode=DevCon23 to add it to your cart so all you need to do is log in and complete the purchase.

Saturday May 6th – Social Events

We are also planning a couple of social events for anyone that wants to hang around for Saturday. Andy will be hosting the first biannual wxPerts Golf Open (otherwise known as a couple of hackers out on the course) and I will be offering something, possibly an Ozarks tour by land/water, for those that don’t golf, still working on the details for that and we will provide more info soon. Then we will all meet back together for a genuine Ozarks BBQ (apparently prepared by yours truly). The Saturday social events are is our Customer Appreciation event and we will be covering that cost for anyone that wants to hang around for Saturday, just be sure to let us know if you are planning to attend Saturday.

Speakers/Presenters

Both myself (Pete Halsted) and Andy Stapleton will of course be speaking at the conference, I won’t bore you with our bios as most of you have known us for more years than you care to admit 🙂 But we are happy to also announce the following guest speakers

Gavin Webb – Gavin started developing in Clarion 2.1 in 1989 in South Africa for the military and later for logistics and manufacturing companies. Moving to Ireland in 2000 and two years later to the UK he founded Bluespier – again using Clarion. Bluespier is a clinical system and is used extensively in about 400 government and private hospitals in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. Starting in 2015 he started building some of the Bluespier components in WebDev. After selling Bluespier in 2017 and a few years break he started two new product companies, both in WebDev. One for the printing industry in Germany and the second for the private medical practice market in the UK. He is now a full-time developer again, doing what he loves, and spends his time living between the UK and Germany.

Glenn Rathke – is the owner of WXTraining where he provides online or streaming training in WinDev and WebDev for the purpose of developing business applications. He was a founding member of Blackwell Consulting, WX Training, and Soft Design Consulting, where he developed hundreds of applications in .Net, Clarion, and WinDev for large corporate and individual clients for over 20 years, spanning multiple business models. Previously, Glenn taught programming at Roosevelt University in Chicago for twelve years and was selected by his students twice as Professor of the Year. Glenn has been developing tools to make life easier for the developer. Many of these tools were implemented in the real world training examples, including Business Rules, QBE, and visual CRUD.

Travel Information

While Lake of the Ozarks is a very popular and great tourist destination, we, unfortunately, do not have any international airports close by. Traveling by car or a rental will likely be required. As we near the event we will be happy to assist anyone that wants to try to coordinate travel and rideshare, see Transportation below for other options.

The Two International airports choices are:

St. Louis Lambert (STL) – This is the closest and at 2 hours 30 minutes away

Kansas City International (MCI) – is 3 hours away

There are also 2 regional airports a bit closer but still likely to require a rental to get to the event

Columbia Regional Airport (COU) – is 1 hour away

Springfield-Branson Nation Airport (SGF) – is 1 hour 45 minutes away.

Transportation

I have found 2 local companies that provide both local rideshares as well as airport transportation, you may be able to coordinate a shared ride with other attendees with them

Amtrack runs a train service with stations in St. Louis or Kansas City, the 2 international airport destinations closest, and there is a station in Jefferson City which is only 45 minutes from the Conference.

Host Hotel Information

Our host for the event will be the Regalia Hotel & Conference Center, 250 Racquet ClubDrive, Lake Ozark, MO 65049. (573) 723-3000. They are offering discounted room rates, at the following nightly rates, you can book directly with the hotel.

Deluxe King with Balcony: $129.00
Deluxe Queen/Queen with Balcony: $129.00
JR King Suite: $139.00
Double Queen Suite: $139.00

I have toured the facilities and am looking forward to having a great event and seeing everyone!

The 1899 Cigar/Bourbon bar is where I will be holding court each night after our sessions 🙂

There is also a sports bar and grill (Foxxy Roxy) and a nicer fine dining restaurant onsite (Royal).
